Futago Kana
Privacy Policy for Futago Kana
Effective date: 17 October 2026
Futago Kana ("the App") is listed on the App Store as Futago Kana, with the subtitle "Learn Hiragana & Katakana". It was previously named Learn Kana.
The App works without an account and does not collect personal information such as your name, email address, precise location, contacts, photos, or microphone access. This policy explains how the current version handles data.
Learning data stays on your device
Your lesson progress, test results, review schedule, personal confusion map, and app settings are stored locally on your device. This information is not sent to the developer, is not synchronised to an online account, and the developer does not receive your learning progress or use a separate analytics service.
Reset learning progress removes learning records, including the confusion map, while keeping your appearance and audio settings. Deleting the App removes its local data.
Advertising
The free version of the App contains advertising provided by Google Mobile Ads.
Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), the App first shows Google's consent form. On iOS, the App then asks for your permission to track, using Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, but only if you accepted personalised ads in that form or no form is required where you are. If you declined in the form, the App does not ask about tracking at all. Google Mobile Ads starts only after these choices. If you allow tracking, Google may use your device's advertising identifier to show you more relevant (personalised) ads, together with the choices you make in Google's consent form where that form is shown. If you do not allow tracking, the App requests only non-personalised ads, and the advertising identifier is not available to it. You see the same number of ads either way, and you can change your answer at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security > Tracking. On other platforms the App requests only non-personalised ads.
To deliver, secure, limit and measure advertisements, Google Mobile Ads and participating advertising providers may process standard technical information, including:
- your IP address, and an approximate (city-level or coarser) location derived from it
- device and app information
- advertising identifiers
- your advertising consent choices
- ad impressions and interactions
- diagnostic information used for fraud prevention and to measure performance
Google handles this information under its own privacy terms. See Google's privacy policy for details of its practices.
You can change your advertising consent choices at any time from the App's Settings screen.
Removing ads
The App offers a one-time purchase that permanently removes advertisements. Purchases are processed by Apple under Apple's own privacy terms; the developer does not receive your payment details. The App stores only a local record that ads have been removed.
Pronunciation and audio
Pronunciation uses speech functionality available on your device. The App does not record audio, request microphone access, or send your voice to the developer.
App delivery and updates
Apple processes App Store downloads and related technical information under Apple's own privacy terms.
The App may contact Expo's update service to check for and download app updates. Those requests may include standard technical information such as an IP address, app version, and device information, which Expo handles under its own privacy terms. The developer does not use this information to identify or track you.
Children's privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the App's features or data practices change. The effective date above will be revised when that happens.
